Francis Baptist Church began with a small group of people who gathered together to pray, fellowship, and draw closer to God. More than nine decades later, that purpose remains at the heart of our church.
How It All Started…
The story of Francis Baptist Church began in the middle of the Great Depression, not with a church building, but with people gathering together in a home.
The Beginning of Francis Baptist Church
In the middle of the Great Depression in 1932, Mr. and Mrs. George Ferree, Mr. L. L. Wilkinson, and Mrs. Coy McCraney met in the Ferree’s home to pray about organizing a Baptist Church in the Francis community.
They had no building in which to meet, so that house served as the first place where Francis Baptist Church met.
Fittingly, it all started with a group of people who met to fellowship and draw closer to God. That remains one of our guiding principles today.
Long before there were buildings, programs, or ministries, there was a group of people gathering together in faith.
A Look Back at Our Story
Francis Baptist Today
Today, Francis is a strong body of believers with members from all over Putnam County. With a large property consisting of four main buildings, we are poised to continue reaching our community with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
We are truly striving to be a family church where all ages are welcomed and engaged in growing as followers of Christ.
